Zhesi Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located at the Aobao of Zhesi area, Mandula Country, the Darhan-Maoming’an United Banner, Inner Mongolia.It was named by Berkey C.P. and Morris F.K. in 1927, and was then known as the Jisu Honguer Formation.

Lithology and Thickness
Clastics and Limestone. Composed essentially of slate, sandy slate, sandstone and chert-banded limestone. Lower part consists of grey-black and dark-purple clayey slate, sandstone and bioclastic limestone lenses. Upper part consists of black-grey, locally of light-purple, medium- and thick-bedded limestones, intercalated with chert bands or bioclastic limestones. Thickness is 696 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Conformable continuous deposit with its underlying Baotege Fm
Upper contact
Conformable contact with the overlying Yihewusu Fm
Regional extent
Distributed in the Zhesi area of the Darhan-Maomingan United Banner, as well as in the Bayinxili area of the Sunite Banner.

Fossils
Yields Brachiopods represented by the Spiriferella-Kochiproductus-Yakovlevia assemblage zone; Fusulinids represented by the Schwagerina quasiregularis-Codonofusiella simplicata subzone; Corals whose lower part is represented by the Tachylasma zhesiense-T. variable assemblage, with the upper part being represented by the Protomichelinia mandulaensis-Pseudofavosites finitimusminor assemblage; and Ammonoids represented by Rhiphaeoceras zhesiense.
